Back in March, I wrote about how Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) was set to officially be renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT) following legislation approved earlier this year by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. The change took effect overnight, with updated airport signage, FAA documentation, and operational systems now reflecting the airport’s new name.

The airport, located just a few miles from President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, serves more than eight million passengers annually and is used by over a dozen airlines. Trump declared Palm Beach his permanent residence in 2019 and frequently travels through the airport.

The transition also includes new airport identifiers. The FAA’s location identifier and ICAO code changed to DJT/KDJT (today, July 9th) while the airport’s IATA code used by airlines and booking systems is scheduled to transition from PBI to DJT on August 18th.

Florida allocated approximately $5.5 million to implement the rebranding to cover new highway signs, airport branding, and other operational updates tied to the name change.

The renaming follows months of political debate with supporters calling it a fitting tribute to the president’s ties to Palm Beach and critics questioning both the cost and the decision to rename a major public airport after a living political figure. There are more than 10 commercial airports in the United States named after former presidents, but none were changed during a sitting President’s term.

Anthony’s Take: Regardless of the differing opinions, the change is now official, making President Donald J. Trump International Airport the newest name on the nation’s aviation map.
