I’ve held Gold status with OpenTable since it was introduced. The status really has not meant much or offered any real benefits. Now, it’s introducing a new loyalty perk designed to help frequent diners secure reservations at some of the country’s most sought-after restaurants and this is something I might actually find useful.

The restaurant reservation platform today announced Gold Tables, a new benefit available to members of its recently relaunched OpenTable Regulars loyalty program. Diners earn Gold status after completing six OpenTable reservations within a 12-month period. I wish this wasn’t so easy to accomplish.

OpenTable Gold Tables

At launch, Gold Tables includes more than 500 participating restaurants across more than 50 US cities, including top dining destinations such as New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Miami, and Washington, D.C. Featured restaurants include Soothr in New York City, Elena’s in San Francisco, Saffy’s in Los Angeles, Fiorella in Philadelphia, and Esmé in Chicago.

Rather than focusing solely on discounts or points, Gold Tables gives loyal diners exclusive access to reservations at high-demand restaurants while helping participating venues connect with some of OpenTable’s most engaged customers.

Gold members also receive additional perks, including Priority Notify Me, which alerts them to newly available reservations before other users, and six months of Uber One membership at no cost for eligible new members. The Uber One benefit includes perks such as ride credits, $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders, and other savings. I already get this comped, so it’s not a biggie for me, but there is value there.

Anthony’s Take: According to OpenTable, Gold members dine out significantly more often than non-Gold users, spend more at restaurants, cancel less frequently, and leave substantially more reviews. This makes them valuable customers for participating restaurants as competition for reservations continues to grow. Hopefully, OpenTable continues to add perks or creates a higher-level status in the future.
