Uber is making changes to its Uber One membership program. This includes a 1% reduction in ride rewards while introducing a few new benefits that don’t really make up for the decrease.

In the next few weeks, eligible rides will earn 5% back in Uber One credits, down from the current 6%. Members can continue to redeem those credits on future Uber rides and Uber Eats orders.

Alongside the rewards decrease, Uber is expanding the program with several new features. Members can now share their Uber One subscription with one additional adult and teenagers in their household at no extra charge (allowing the entire family to access membership benefits). This does nothing for me as my husband only uses Uber when with me.

The company is also extending Uber One benefits internationally (enabling members to use their perks in more than 45 countries where the program is available). I like this, but I would still earn more on my domestic trips without the cut since I use Uber and Uber Eats many times weekly.

Uber is also introducing additional hotel savings (including 10% back in Uber One credits on eligible hotel bookings made through the app) along with discounts of up to 20% at select properties. I would never book a hotel through Uber as I want my points and benefits.

Other existing benefits remain unchanged, including $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders, Surge Savings on qualifying rides, and access to exclusive member offers.

Anthony’s Take: The updates are a devaluation for me. I’m glad that The Platinum Card® from American Express covers the cost for me. This is a net loss, overall.
