Lufthansa Group just introduced a consistent set of lounge access rules for First Class passengers and Miles & More HON Circle members across Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines. The new rules are actually more generous even though they only impact a small subset of flyers.
Under the updated policy, eligible travelers can now bring two guests into participating First Class lounges or terminals (along with an unlimited number of their own children under the age of 18). The unlimited number of children has me picturing the von Trapp children, but I digress.
To qualify, accompanying guests and children must be traveling on the same flight as the eligible First Class passenger or HON Circle member. The changes apply to Lufthansa Group’s premium ground facilities, including the renowned Lufthansa First Class Terminal (review here) at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and the airline’s network of First Class lounges.
According to Loyalty Lobby, Lufthansa sent the following message:
Greater flexibility for lounge access: As a HON Circle Member or First Class passenger, you will soon be able to bring two travel companions, as well as your own children under the age of 18, into the First Class Terminal and First Class Lounges. As before, all travel companions and children require a valid boarding pass for the same flight as you.
This adjustment further harmonizes access rules across Lufthansa Group airlines and extends your options when traveling with family members and companions. The specific access policies applicable to the First Class Terminal or First Class Lounges at the respective location will apply.”
Anthony’s Take: This was a good move. By standardizing the guest policy across its premium brands, Lufthansa Group is making lounge access simpler and more consistent for its most frequent travelers and First Class customers, while reinforcing the premium experience offered before departure.
