oneworld® Wants to Open Up to 20 Airport Lounges Worldwide

The oneworld® alliance is looking to expand its lounge network with plans to open or rebrand lounges at up to 20 airports around the world.

Speaking about the alliance’s future lounge strategy, oneworld® CEO Ole Orvér told Executive Traveller that the alliance remains committed to growing its branded lounge footprint, although travelers shouldn’t necessarily expect a wave of openings within the next six to twelve months. Rather than a lack of ambition, Orvér explained that the timeline depends largely on when suitable airport space becomes available.

The alliance currently operates its own lounges at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN), both of which opened in 2024 and have proven popular with premium travelers.

Future expansions may not always involve building brand-new lounges. Instead, Orvér revealed that oneworld® is also discussing the possibility of taking over and rebranding existing lounges operated by its 16 member airlines to create a more unified experience across the alliance.

Among the airports being considered is Frankfurt Airport (FRA), which has become an increasingly attractive option following the relocation of oneworld® airlines to the airport’s new Terminal 3. While Qatar Airways is expected to open its own premium lounge there, Orvér confirmed Frankfurt remains on the shortlist. When asked about Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), Orvér suggested it could also become a future oneworld® lounge location.

While the alliance has not revealed the full list of target airports, Orvér said there are approximately 20 airports under consideration with some destinations viewed as stronger candidates than others.

Anthony’s Take: As airlines continue investing heavily in premium travel, lounges have become an increasingly important differentiator. Expanding the oneworld® lounge network would provide eligible customers with a more consistent premium experience, regardless of which alliance member they are flying.
