Oh, United. The person responsible for writing your in-flight dining menus takes a lot of liberties. Today, while flying from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) I decided to try the Esquites Salad. This is generally the corn off-the-cob version of elotes and is served with Cotija Cheese and not on a bed of kale. I hate kale, so this was not a good choice for me. While the dish traditionally is almost all corn, someone must have been counting the kernels in the catering facility because this one included about 15 on the plate.
United describes its Esquites Salad as having “kale, charred corn, peppers, blistered tomatoes, tajin croutons, and poblano green goddess dressing with an optional side of chili poached shrimp.”
The meal started with a choice of beverage and United’s snack mix (this was not warmed). I ordered a ginger ale.
The tray came with a cold bread roll and Key Lime Cheesecake. The salad was odd. There was not enough dressing, tons of croutons, the tomatoes were raw and not blistered, no peppers, and there was a small handful of corn kernels. The shrimp were okay, but they had next to know seasoning.
Everybody’s so creative or maybe this is more Nailed It. The Key Lime Cheesecake was bad. Artificial and cloyingly sweet. There is no way a real Key Lime was used in this dessert. My guess is that it was lime juice from a squeeze bottle and some food coloring. That’s not butter, but whipped cream if you were wondering.

Anthony’s Take: This one is a miss for me. From the nut mix to the dessert, the meal was not served at the right temperatures and even if it had been it was odd with a bad dessert. I won’t be ordering this one again.
