I have long said that United Airlines has the best global route network of any US airline. In the past few years, it has gotten even better with routes that no other carrier flies to/from the United States. Each time United is about to make big route announcements, it releases a teaser video with clues as to what is coming. The latest just came out today and where the airline is headed is anyone’s guess.
The latest announcements will be made alongside a media event that will unveil United’s first Airbus A321XLR. These aircraft will be used to replace United’s aging (and quite awful) Boeing 757-200 aircraft that are used to serve smaller European cities. I’ve flown this aircraft in the past to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) and Dublin Airport (DUB) from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Everyone is trying to guess where United will go next, but one X user put some data behind his guesses. He lists the following cities as possibilities from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR):
- Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ)
- Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD)
- Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH)
- Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS)
- Marseille Provence Airport (MRS)
- Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG)
- Seville Airport (SVQ)
- Turin Airport (TRN)
- Valencia Airport (VLC)
I have to agree with Matthew at Live and Let’s Fly that Copenhagen Airport (CPH) seems like a definite given SAS leaving Star Alliance back in 2024 and United formerly flying this route. The others, I’m not so sure. I want to go back to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) for its amazing food, so I’ll take a nonstop there. Matthew also guessed Luxembourg Airport (LUX) and that would be another fun addition.
