United Airlines is giving travelers in the Chicago area a faster path to MileagePlus® elite status with a limited-time status match promotion that offers easier qualification requirements than its standard challenge.

United Status Match

Available through September 30th, the offer is open to MileagePlus® members whose account address is in the Chicago metropolitan area. Eligible participants receive 120 days of matched Premier status after enrolling and completing one qualifying United or United Express flight to or from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) within 90 days of registration. Travelers who flew an eligible flight within the previous 30 days may also qualify.

Premier Status

The requirements above are what members must put up annually in order to maintain status if not part of a challenge. To keep the matched status through the following program year, participants only need to complete two qualifying United or United Express flights during the challenge period (a substantial reduction from the five-flight requirement in United’s standard status match offer). Members must also earn the required number of Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) based on the elite tier they are matching:

  • Premier Silver: 1,700 PQP
  • Premier Gold: 3,400 PQP
  • Premier Platinum: 5,000 PQP
  • Premier 1K®: 7,500 PQP

One of the biggest advantages of the Chicago promotion is that PQP earned through eligible United credit card spending counts toward the challenge, which makes it even easier for members to meet the qualification thresholds. More details and terms and conditions can be found here.

Anthony’s Take: If you live in the Chicago area and want an easy path to a status match with United MileagePlus®, this is a great opportunity to snag status and the perks that come with it.
