A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 was forced to return to Munich International Airport (MUC) after a dramatic takeoff in which the aircraft reportedly overran the end of the runway before becoming airborne.
Flight VN 34 to Hanoi’s Nội Bài International Airport (HAN) struck runway approach lights during departure and prompted the crew to declare a precautionary return. Because the jet was carrying fuel for the long-haul flight, it remained airborne for about 90 minutes before landing.
The aircraft landed safely, although reports indicate it sustained significant damage, including blown tires and a tail strike. No injuries were reported.
