I flew from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) yesterday. The flight was operated by Endeavor Air (flying under Delta Connection). This is not an exciting route. It’s fast, the plane is small, and usually I do a little work and we’re there. Something was different yesterday and somehow I was the only one who noticed.

Seated across from me in seat 1C was Kevin Bacon. The award-winning actor is known for decades of film and television roles spanning dramas, thrillers, and comedies. He rose to fame in the 1980s with films like Footloose and later became a pop culture icon through the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” phenomenon, which playfully suggests nearly every actor in Hollywood can be connected to him through shared film appearances. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and recognizable performers. He is also known as a genuinely nice guy. He was escorted onto the plane and settled into the first row. The flight attendants didn’t even recognize him (or if they did, he was given no special treatment as they reminded him to bring his seat to the upright position).

I quietly asked for a selfie and did not fawn over this legend. I love so many of his movies. Stir of Echoes is one of my favorites, but there are many, many more. He as met at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) by a handler who told him his driver was waiting. I laughed when the guy asked if he had checked bags and Bacon replied “I haven’t checked a bag in 20 years.”
Anthony’s Take: This was the highlight of my day. I’ve flown with many celebrities through the years like Coolio, Joan Rivers, William Shatner, Lena Dunham, and more. I always am respectful and leave them alone (aside from asking for a quick selfie). They’re people and want to enjoy their flights like everyone else. No one else on the plane recognized Kevin Bacon and he was off to whatever he’s doing in Toronto. He was kind, quiet, and it was just so cool to be seated a few feet from him.
