As I wrote about yesterday, United Airlines is making another big international push and just announced its largest international route rollout to date with service to 10 new international destinations and three additional long-haul routes beginning in 2027. The airline also introduced its newest long-range aircraft (the Airbus A321XLR), which will play a key role in this expansion.
Several of the new routes will be exclusive to United among US airlines to further strengthen the carrier’s position as the nation’s largest airline across both the Atlantic and Pacific.
Among the newly announced destinations to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) are:
- Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) (4x weekly; starts on May 28th). Delta currently offers flights to/from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
- Ibiza Airport (IBZ) (4x weekly; starts on May 31st)
- Lajes Airport (TER) (3x weekly; starts on June 9th)
- Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) (4x weekly; starts on May 12th)
- Luxembourg Findel Airport (LUX) (daily; starts April 2nd)
- Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) (daily; starts on June 4th)
- Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) (3x weekly; starts on May 27th). Delta currently offers flights to/from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
- Valencia Airport (VLC) (3x weekly; starts on June 2nd)
United will add two new destinations that will not be departing Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). These include:
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Okinawa’s Naha Airport (OKA) (3x weekly; starts March 27th)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to/from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) (daily; starts on April 26th)
United is also expanding service to destinations already in its network by launching the following:
- Denver International Airport (DEN) to/from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) (daily; starts on May 27th)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Osaka’s Kansai International Airport (KIX) (daily; starts on March 27th). This is currently flown by United to/from San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) (3x weekly; scheduled to restart on March 28th)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to/from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (3x weekly; starts on May 28th)
Many of the new European routes will be operated by United’s new Airbus A321XLR, which the airline has branded “Born to Explore.” The aircraft features United Polaris® suites with privacy doors, United Premium Plus seating, complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity, and redesigned Economy Plus seats offering additional personal space.
The A321XLR will begin flying select domestic routes later this year before entering international service on flights from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to/from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Dublin Airport (DUB) in December. By next summer, it will serve several of United’s newly announced destinations across Europe. Tickets for all new routes are now available.

Anthony’s Take: I have said it so many times: United has the best route network of any US carrier and it just keeps getting better. United has added nearly 60 international destinations over the past decade and now serves more than 160 international destinations worldwide while it continues to expand its reach from hubs across the United States.
