Philippine Airlines is preparing for its planned entry into the oneworld® alliance in late 2027 by exploring major upgrades to its airport lounge offerings and frequent flyer program.
Executive Traveller reports that among the initiatives under consideration is a new flagship lounge at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). The airline is also evaluating changes to its Mabuhay Miles loyalty program (including the possible introduction of a new elite tier above its current Premier Elite status).
The planned updates are designed to align Philippine Airlines more closely with the oneworld® alliance’s global standards, which give members of partner airlines a more consistent experience when flying with the carrier.
Currently, Mabuhay Miles offers two elite levels: Elite and Premier Elite. These are expected to correspond with the alliance’s Ruby and Sapphire tiers. Adding a higher-level status would create an equivalent to oneworld® Emerald, which is the alliance’s top elite level that provides enhanced airport and lounge benefits.
The airline is also considering consolidating all of its international operations at Manila’s Terminal 3. This move that could support the development of new premium lounges for international travelers.
Anthony’s Take: This should surprise on one, but Philippine Airlines is expected to officially join the oneworld® alliance toward the end of 2027. The move makes sense and it will be great to see oneworld® grow.
