A ground crew employee has died after being struck by an aircraft during pushback at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) on Monday evening. The incident occurred shortly before a French Bee Airbus A350-900 was preparing to depart for Paris-Orly Airport (ORY). Airport officials said emergency responders were called to the scene at approximately 7:30 PM and the worker was transported to a hospital where they later died from their injuries.

According to preliminary reports, the aircraft was reversing from its gate when the employee was struck. Unconfirmed reports indicate the worker may have been serving as a wing walker and fell in front of the aircraft during the pushback operation. The aircraft had been scheduled to depart earlier, but was operating as a delayed ferry flight after remaining at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) following a technical issue over the weekend. The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident remain under investigation.

Anthony’s Take: This is tragic and shows how dangerous a split-second mistake can be. My condolences to this individual’s friends and family. The Montreal Police Service said Employment and Social Development Canada has opened an investigation into the accident. Airport officials are also cooperating with investigators and have provided support to employees and passengers who witnessed the incident.
