Back in November, I wrote about how LOT Polish Airlines was continuing its rapid North American expansion with the launch of nonstop service between Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The new route debuted today, May 6th and will operate 4x weekly during the summer season. The route connects to United’s largest West Coast hub and flyers will see the opportunity to take tons of connections through LOT’s Star Alliance partner.

The addition of San Francisco strengthens LOT’s long-haul strategy and joins Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Miami International Airport (MIA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) as the sixth US destination served.

LOT will operate the route using its Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the approximately 11-hour and 30-minute journey. These offer 18 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 213 Economy Class seats.

San Francisco’s global reputation as a center of technology, culture, and innovation adds further appeal, offering Polish and European travelers a gateway to Northern California and Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, US travelers gain another nonstop option to reach Warsaw and connect onward to LOT’s growing network across Central and Eastern Europe.

Robert Ludera, Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer at LOT Polish Airlines, said:

Today’s launch of the Warsaw-San Francisco service is more than an expansion of our route network. It is an investment in a route that connects business, innovation and global ambition. With this launch, San Francisco becomes the sixth U.S. airport in our scheduled network. The new service will create opportunities for business partnerships, knowledge exchange and stronger economic ties between Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, and the U.S. West Coast. It will also make one of the world’s most inspiring cities more accessible to travelers. San Francisco is renowned for its culture, diversity and unique character, and I am confident that this new service will support both tourism and Polish businesses.”

Anthony’s Take: I love that LOT is expanding in the United States. I’ve said it for a while, but I still need to check out the lounge that LOT opened at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) one of these days.
