A parody video poking fun at Ryanair’s customer service and policies popped up in my X feed today and I have to say that it’s painfully accurate (aside from any safety issues shown). The video is dated 2025, but this is the first time I have seen it.

The satirical clip spoofs the airline’s famously no-frills approach by joking about everything from baggage fees and delayed flights to customer support and compensation claims. Among the video’s funniest lines are quips that Ryanair’s customer service is always available to remind passengers there’s “absolutely nothing” it can do, and that refund requests are simply tossed in the bin.

The parody also jokes about passengers never knowing their departure gate until the last minute, turning the airport dash into a “free cardio session,” while suggesting that even correctly sized carry-on bags might somehow still be deemed too large. We just flew Ryanair between Malta International Airport (MLA) to Trapani-Birgi Airport (TPS). This was the only nonstop option and had we not flown this we would have had to connect in Rome, London, Munich, etc. The flight was fine, but I was annoyed. I booked the first row (which has two seats). Ryanair swapped the plane so that it was a row of three and sold the seat to someone else (had I known I would have purchased the extra seat in advance).

Despite the jokes, Ryanair remains one of Europe’s most successful low-cost airlines. The carrier has built an enormous following by offering ultra-low fares while embracing its reputation online, often using self-deprecating humor and sarcasm across its social media channels. The only part of this that is not fair is the safety issue and plane hitting the wall. Ryanair for all its flaws is safe.

Anthony’s Take: Judging by the reaction online, however, this latest parody struck a chord. While plenty of travelers defended the airline by noting that following the rules usually leads to a smooth trip, others said the video hilariously captured what flying Europe’s largest low-cost carrier can sometimes feel like.

Superb video. I might slight differ with you as to how you characterize Ryanair’s habit of poking fun at themselves. I think that rather than self-deprecating they’re trying to preempt other people making acid jokes at their expense by making some jokes themselves, rather like a fat kid making fat jokes to ward off other people from doing so. That’s damage control rather than good natured ribbing.
