Air India announced today that it will move its operations to the upcoming Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). It joins most Star Alliance airlines, Aer Lingus, Condor, Cathay Pacific, SAS, TAP Air Portugal, JetBlue, Condor, Kuwait Airways, and other international carriers that have made plans to move from Terminal 4 and inhabit the new space in 2028.
Terminal 6 is a key element of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This includes two new terminals, two expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway. Air India currently offers daily nonstop flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to both Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM).
Following the recent debut of its signature Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Air India is expanding its premium lounge network in North America with its first flagship Maharaja Lounge in Terminal 6. The 9,100-square-foot lounge will overlook the terminal’s main post-security concourse and offer travelers Air India’s signature blend of Indian hospitality, upscale amenities, and premium comfort on the US East Coast.
The new Terminal 6 will offer a digital-first, boutique guest experience that provides less than five-minute average walks from the TSA security checkpoint to all of the terminal’s gates,100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges, and amenities. The project is being managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners.
Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) looks impressive. I have been largely avoiding JFK as the construction and resulting traffic is horrendous, but once complete this looks like a good option for international trips.
