Avianca is continuing its rapid expansion in South Florida with the launch of two new nonstop routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Colombia. The airline has started daily service to both Barranquilla’s Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) and Cali’s Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO).
The additions reflect growing demand for travel between South Florida and Colombia. Barranquilla is famous for hosting one of the world’s largest Carnival celebrations and Cali is widely recognized as the salsa capital of the world. Both cities attract a mix of vacationers, business travelers, and those visiting friends and family.

Fort Lauderdale has emerged as a major gateway to Colombia and Latin America. Following the collapse of Spirit Airlines, carriers including Avianca and JetBlue have been adding new routes to fill the void and strengthen their presence at the airport.
With the launch of Barranquilla and Cali, Avianca now serves eight Colombian destinations nonstop from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). These include:
- Armenia’s El Edén International Airport (AXM)
- Barranquilla’s Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ)
- Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG)
- Bucaramanga’s Palonegro International Airport (BGA)
- Cali’s Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO)
- Cartagena’s Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG)
- Medellín’s José María Córdova International Airport (MDE)
- Pereira’s Matecaña International Airport (PEI)
Anthony’s Take: For travelers, the expanded network means more nonstop choices, greater scheduling flexibility, and increased competition. These are all factors that can ultimately help keep fares competitive on one of South Florida’s busiest international travel markets.
