Spirit Airlines folded on May 2nd. Frontier Airlines is adding eight new routes this week and picking up service in markets previously operated by Spirit Airlines and expanding low-cost options across several major US cities. The new flights begin today (July 5th) and tomorrow (July 6th). They connect destinations including Boston, Detroit, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Memphis, New Orleans, Orlando, Philadelphia, and Richmond.

The new routes include:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) (daily; starts on July 5th)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to/from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) (daily; starts on July 5th)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) (daily; starts on July 5th)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) (daily; starts on July 5th)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (daily; starts on July 6th)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to Kansas City International Airport (MCI) (4x weekly; starts on July 5th)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) to/from Memphis International Airport (MEM) (3x weekly; starts on July 5th)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Richmond International Airport (RIC) (3x weekly; starts on July 5th)

The added service strengthens Frontier’s presence in leisure-heavy and price-sensitive markets while giving travelers another ultra-low-cost option during the busy summer travel season.

Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said:

We are pleased to grow our service across the country to ensure low-cost flight options remain available to consumers as they plan their travel this summer and beyond. With premium upgrades paired with our signature affordability, we are thrilled to show travelers why we are America’s Low Fare Airline.”

Anthony’s Take: Frontier says flight frequencies and schedules are subject to change and travelers should check the airline’s website for the latest details, but it’s good to see these low-cost options return.
