After our time in Calabria and Sardinia, we flew to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) for the night (before a United flight home). The flight from Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) was operated by KLM Cityhopper (a regional airline) and was a relatively short and pleasant way to get to Amsterdam.

Anthony’s Take: I wish that the flight had Wi-Fi, but other than that the crew was great, we were well fed, the bulkhead provided plenty of room, and we arrived on time. I love the boxed meals that KLM serves and this one was as tasty as others I have had in the past. Landing and having to board a bus is always annoying, but at least we had an overnight in the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel and Conference Center and were not rushing to catch a connection. Check-in with the app was easy and boarding passes were in my Apple Wallet.

KLM Booking

Booking

I booked two Business Class tickets directly on KLM’s website for $1,534 all in. This was not cheap, but I wanted to make sure that we had plenty of space for the almost three-hour flight.

Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG)

The airport is small, but offers some shopping and eateries. It was hot outside, but the air conditioning worked well throughout. We spent some time in the Prima Vista Lounge by Aviapartner (review here) and it was a bit disappointing.

Boarding

We arrived at the gate early and boarding began on time. Business Class was called first, followed by group numbers. Everyone was made to walk down a jet bridge, a flight of stairs, and across the tarmac to the plane. I prefer this to a bus, but it would have been nice if the plane could have been attached to the gate.

KLM CAG-AMS 5

Seats

The bulkhead seats provided plenty of space. The entire plane is in a 2-2 configuration with the first two rows designated as Business Class. We were in seats 1C and 1A.

KLM CAG-AMS 6

There were individual lights and air nozzles overhead. There were no USB or standard AC outlets provided.

KLM CAG-AMS 7

There was no in-flight entertainment other than a magazine.

KLM CAG-AMS 8

The seats only function was to recline.

KLM CAG-AMS 9

Food

The flight was short, but a full meal and a snack was offered.

KLM CAG-AMS 10

This started with a choice of beverage. I had a ginger ale.

KLM CAG-AMS 11

The meal was served in a box. KLM has been serving meals without meat on short-haul flights for some time. This meal consisted of pearl couscous with falafel, hummus, almonds, a warm bread roll, and some macaron.

KLM CAG-AMS 12

Later in the flight, we were handed a leek tartlet.

KLM CAG-AMS 15

I liked the way KLM presented the salt and pepper.

KLM CAG-AMS 16

The art on the beverage carts was also cute.

Wi-Fi

There was no Wi-Fi offered on this aircraft. This is not competitive in 2026 and quite disappointing.

Lavatory

The lavatory was what you’d expect with a sink and toilet.

Service

The flight attendants were warm, friendly, and attentive. It was not a long flight, but they were constantly checking in.

Overall Impression:

The flight was pleasant and I would gladly fly KLM Cityhopper again when presented with the option.
