I got to try one of United’s newer First Class meals while flying today from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Try was the keyword as a few bites of the Veal Osso Bucco Ravioli was all I needed to deem this dish a failure.

United Veal Osso Bucco Ravioli

The meal is described as “veal osso bucco ravioli with demi-glace and Italian seasoning mix.” It’s a doughy mess with an oddly sweet sauce that does not taste like osso bucco and almost had the flavor of beets.

The meal started out with a choice of beverage. Nuts were not served with beverages (they later came on the tray with the meal). This was not am surprise as the flight attendant serving the meals was inexperienced and lazy. She did not seem to care and provided the bare minimum level of service.

The tray included a green salad, a bread roll, mixed nuts, and some sort of chocolate mousse cake. The salad and bread were fine.

The chocolate mousse cake was extremely artificial and cheap tasting. The menu said that the meal was supposed to include a lemon tart. This was clearly not what was catered. I’m happy that we’re moving on from the Magnolia Bakery cups, but this was awful.

Anthony’s Take: Would I order this dish again? Not a chance. United managed to destroy a pasta dish. The catering is once again declining and it’s sad that United can’t serve decent meals.
