United Airlines has reached the next milestone in its Starlink rollout by operating its first transatlantic passenger flight equipped with the high-speed satellite internet service.

United flight UA 14 is scheduled to depart Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) for London Heathrow Airport (LHR) tonight aboard a Boeing 777-200. It will become the airline’s first wide-body international flight to offer Starlink connectivity to customers. The flight marks the beginning of a rapid expansion of Starlink across United’s long-haul fleet. The airline expects nearly 60 wide-body aircraft to be equipped with the service by the end of this year, with the entire wide-body fleet scheduled to be outfitted by next summer.

United says Starlink’s satellite network will provide fast and reliable internet access for MileagePlus members, including over oceans, polar routes, and other remote regions where traditional inflight Wi-Fi systems often struggle to maintain connectivity. The airline has already installed Starlink on more than 400 aircraft and expects to have nearly 1,000 Starlink-equipped planes in service before the end of 2026.

As the largest airline across both the Atlantic and Pacific, United views the technology as a key enhancement to the customer experience, particularly on long-haul international routes where passengers increasingly expect reliable connectivity for work, streaming, messaging, and entertainment. The rollout is part of United’s broader plan to offer fast, free inflight internet to MileagePlus members across its fleet, positioning the airline among the industry’s leaders in next-generation onboard connectivity.

David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer, said:

United is changing what it means to stay connected on an overseas flight. Starlink offers the same fast, reliable internet access and connectivity we’re all used to at home, delivered in the air at 35,000 feet, flying anywhere around the world. This technology has the potential to transform how we think about the inflight experience for both our customers and our employees.”

Anthony’s Take: With Starlink now making its debut on international wide-body operations, United’s vision of fleet-wide, high-speed satellite internet is quickly becoming a reality. I’ve only been on one United aircraft with Starlink, so it’s good to see this rolling out faster.
