I last reviewed American’s Classic American Sliders & Fries back in September 2025. I thought it was time to see if anything had changed and pre-ordered them today for my flight from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Recent taste tests have included Delta’s Shake Shack collaboration and the Ultimate Cheeseburger that United was serving in its Bistro on Board. I’m glad I took the time today to try this one again. This is only available when selected in advance.

The meal is described as “Beef sliders with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese. Served with a side of fries.”

The meal started with warm mixed nuts and a choice of beverage. I ordered a ginger ale. American is by far the most generous with the portion size for the nuts.

The tray came with some sort of curried hummus with veggies and pita. It was delicious. The sliders were nice and hot. The cheese and onions added a lot and I wolfed down the two of them. The fries were surprisingly crispy.

The meal was served with Smash Kitchen condiments. I love that these are organic and non-GMO. Now, American needs to ditch the Heinz and cater the right Smash Kitchen ketchup. I wrote about this update in March and am glad that they’re now being served.

Dessert was what I’m calling cannoli cheesecake. I had a bite and enjoyed it. I wasn’t hungry, so I did not eat the rest.
Anthony’s Take: American does a good job of mixing up the side dishes so that you’re not always getting a green salad. I really enjoyed the hummus. The sliders were quite good, but Delta still gets the win with its Shake Shack offering.
