Austrian Airlines opened its newest lounge in the non-Schengen area at Vienna International Airport (VIE) last week. The lounge is located near the G-Gates on Level 3 of the airport.
The latest lounge addition is meant to serve guests until the South Terminal extension opens in 2027. The design creates feel-good zones and offers privacy coupled with Austrian charm and a focus on colors, design, and light. The lounge’s amenities now include a serviced coffee house area with beverages and desserts in addition to the existing food offerings for a complete Austrian culinary experience.
Seating is available for up to 180 guests and HON Circle members will still have a dedicated area within the lounge. Automated entry is being introduced for the first time at an Austrian Business Lounge and Star Alliance Biometrics will be possible to use for access in the future. I had never heard of Star Alliance Biometrics before. It’s a facial recognition system that allows passengers to pass through airport security, boarding gates, and lounges without a boarding pass or smartphone. This is available at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Hamburg Airport (HAM), Munich International Airport (MUC), and Vienna International Airport (VIE).
Access is permitted for First and Business Class passengers, Star Alliance Gold members, and Miles & More Senator and HON Circle members flying on Star Alliance carriers with a same-day departing boarding passes. Day passes may also be purchased for €44.
Anthony’s Take: I like Austrian’s lounges and find that they have good coffee, decent food, and decor that makes you feel like you’re in Austria.
