Virgin Australia flight VA696 departed Perth Airport (PER) and was en route to Melbourne Airport (MEL) when it was forced to divert and return back to its origin after a naked male passenger ran down the aisle and pushed over a flight attendant according to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

VA696 Diversion

It’s unknown what made the passenger strip down and take a lap around the cabin. A Virgin Australia spokesperson released a statement that doesn’t shed anymore light on the situation:

Appropriate steps were taken by the crew, in line with protocol [to deal with the] disruptive passenger.”

A passenger shared that several Business Class passengers tackled the man, cuffed him, and brought him to the back of the plane. USA Today reports that the passenger is being held at a local hospital and will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on June 14th. The charges that he faces have not yet been released.

Anthony’s Take: What drove this man to get nude and run through the aircraft remains to be seen. But, he’s got himself into some serious trouble for assaulting a crew member and causing the diversion.
