Travelers heading out of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) will now have access to a completely different kind of airport lounge experience. Portal Lounge, the new concept opening tomorrow in Terminal 1 near the intersection of Concourses C and D, aims to turn the traditional airport lounge into a more interactive and social destination rather than simply a quiet waiting area before boarding.

Created by the team behind Gameway, which already operates gaming-focused lounges in nine US airports, Portal Lounge expands the concept with elevated dining, cocktails, immersive lighting, and a stronger hospitality focus. The 3,800-square-foot lounge accommodates around 114 guests and features 17 dedicated gaming stations equipped with Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC gaming setups. Travelers can choose from nearly 30 games with options ranging from solo play to multiplayer and competitive gaming experiences.

Portal Lounge goes well beyond gaming. The space incorporates what it describes as cinematic lighting, curated music, social seating areas, and art deco-inspired interiors designed to create a more energetic and communal atmosphere than traditional airport lounges. One of the lounge’s biggest attractions is its robotic bartender, believed to be the first of its kind inside a US airport lounge (I’ve seen one on the Las Vegas Strip, but never in an airport). The automated bar serves specialty cocktails and mocktails inspired by Minnesota culture and local flavors.
Featured drinks include the “Lag Free,” a Minnesota-themed margarita featuring Honeycrisp apple, maple, and citrus flavors along with “Prince’s Lemonade,” a zero-proof cocktail inspired by Minnesota music icon Prince.

The lounge also offers a more ambitious food program than many standard airport spaces. Guests can enjoy build-your-own bowls with chicken, tofu, rice, vegetables, and sauces, alongside sliders, buffalo cauliflower, salads, and desserts. Chef-designed small plates and premium beverage upgrades are also available.
Portal Lounge is open daily from 4:00 AM until 9:00 PM and participates in the Priority Pass network. This means that many travelers with premium travel credit cards can access the space at no additional cost regardless of airline or cabin class. Walk-in access is expected to cost $70 for travelers without lounge memberships.
Anthony’s Take: As airports increasingly compete to improve passenger experiences beyond standard seating and snacks, Portal Lounge represents one of the boldest attempts yet to rethink what an airport lounge can be by blending gaming, dining, entertainment, and social interaction into a space designed to feel more like a destination than a waiting room.
