Allegiant Air is a low-cost carrier and the 14th largest airline in the United States. It operates a fleet of more than 120 Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. Based in Las Vegas, many know the carrier for its namesake stadium where the Super Bowl was played a few months ago. Today, it announced 18 routes that are getting the axe this summer and fall. The majority are being lost from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Nashville International Airport (BNA).

Austin

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (ends August 11th)

  • Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) (ends October 13th)
  • Eugene Airport (EUG) (cancelled already)
  • Laredo International Airport (LRD) (ends August 11th)
  • Rogue Valley International Medford Airport (MFR) (ends August 12th)
  • Omaha’s Eppley Airfield (OMA) (ends August 10th)

Nashville

Nashville International Airport (BNA)

  • Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) (ends October 28th)
  • Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) (ends October 28th)
  • Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) (ends October 28th)
  • Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) (ends August 11th)
  • Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) (ends October 27th)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (ends August 11th)

Other Route Cancellations:

  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to/from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (cancelled already)
  • Huntington Tri-State Airport (HTS) to/from Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) (ends September 16th)

This tweet continues to make me laugh.

Anthony’s Take: Allegiant recently added 10 routes (more here) and these latest cuts are seasonal adjustments with some routes possibly coming back next year.

Props to Allegiant for announcing these cuts and to you for publishing them. So often, bloggers breathlessly announce lots of new service from an airline without bringing up that the planes and crews had to come from some other routes.
