American Airlines is rolling out newly retrofitted Airbus A319 and Airbus A320 aircraft this summer to bring more premium seating, upgraded interiors, and enhanced passenger amenities to its narrow-body fleet. The refurbished aircraft feature cabin designs inspired by American’s newest Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLRs to create a more modern and consistent onboard experience across the airline’s network.

One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of more premium seats. The redesigned First Class cabin includes upgraded seats with privacy wings, extra personal storage space, and dual cocktail trays. Passengers throughout the aircraft will benefit from larger overhead bins, updated mood lighting, refreshed cabin finishes, and power at every seat (including USB-C charging ports).

The upgrades build on American’s broader effort to modernize the customer experience. Earlier this year, the airline introduced complimentary Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members across its narrow-body fleet through a partnership with AT&T. Looking ahead, the retrofitted Airbus A319 and A320 fleets are expected to receive Starlink satellite internet connectivity beginning in 2027.

American has also been investing in its onboard food and beverage offerings. Premium cabin travelers can enjoy updated chef-inspired menus and enhanced beverage service, while Main Cabin passengers now have access to refreshed meal and snack options, including a new fruit and cheese tray, roasted turkey sandwich, and Inflight Bites snack box.

American’s Chief Customer Officer, Heather Garboden, said:

We are excited to introduce our refreshed interiors and new premium seats on our narrow-body aircraft, offering our customers more space to stow their carry-ons and a convenient way to power their devices. We’ve strengthened the journey from curb to cabin, and we are excited for customers to fly on these aircraft this summer and beyond.”

Anthony’s Take: The retrofitted aircraft are expected to enter service throughout the summer to give customers more opportunities to experience American’s latest cabin enhancements on domestic and short-haul international routes.
