American Airlines is boosting its flight schedule this fall to accommodate football fans traveling to major NFL and college matchups across the United States and internationally. The airline says it is adding more than 23,000 seats as part of its largest-ever football-focused travel schedule with special flights and increased capacity across more than 50 routes tied to high-profile games throughout the 2026 season. American says the enhanced schedule will cover more than 166,000 miles of flying during the season, which is equivalent to more than three million football fields.
The airline is adding special flights and expanded seating from major hubs including:
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
- Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Some of the marquee NFL matchups receiving additional service include:
- Seattle Seahawks at Las Vegas Raiders
- New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs
- Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins
- Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers
Additional flights and seats are being added on routes such as:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Kansas City International Airport (MCI)
- Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) to Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB)
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
The airline is also adding service to nearby regional airports for certain games (including Appleton International Airport (ATW) in Wisconsin for Packers matchups).

American is also increasing service for college football fans heading to campuses and rivalry games nationwide. The airline says it will add flights and seats tied to more than 50 college football games this season, including expanded service to:
- Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)
- Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM)
- Columbia Regional Airport (COU)
- Easterwood Airport (CLL)
- Lincoln Airport (LNK)
- Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport (OKC)
- South Bend International Airport (SBN)
The carrier says Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) will see especially strong additions to support Texas Longhorns fans throughout the season.
American is also leaning into the growing international popularity of football by adding flights to several global destinations hosting games this fall. In September, the airline will operate special nonstop service between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport (GIG) (where the Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens at Maracanã Stadium).
Additional international football travel markets include:
- London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
- Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD)
- Melbourne Airport (MEL)
- Mexico City International Airport (MEX)
- Munich Airport (MUC)
- Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
American says it remains the largest US airline serving both London and Madrid and is leveraging partnerships with British Airways, GOL, Iberia, and Qantas to offer expanded international connectivity for football fans.
Anthony’s Take: American says the expanded football schedule reflects continued strong demand for sports-related travel as both professional and college football continue drawing fans to destinations across North America and abroad.
