Air Transat was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards, which are often referred to as the “Oscars of the aviation industry.” I had never heard of them before the announcement last month (more here). Now, the airline is adding flights from Montreal and Toronto to Cozumel and Lima.

Lima

Flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) will operate 2x weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays from December 20th to April 24th. Flights between Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) will operate once weekly on Fridays from December 22nd to April 26th.

For travelers to Mexico, Air Transat will begin serving Cozumel International Airport (CZM) from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) once weekly (on Fridays) from December 15th to April 26th.

All of these flights will be operated on new Airbus A321LR planes featuring in-seat entertainment featuring Club Class (Air Transat’s Business Class) and Economy.

Michèle Barre, Air Transat’s Chief Revenue Officer, said:

We are proud to add Lima to our portfolio of destinations on three continents. This strategic expansion allows us to diversify our long-haul offering by maximising the use of our A321LR aircraft, and to capitalize on the sustained growth of tourism in South America. Meanwhile, we are consolidating our presence in the Mexican market – a key destination of our Caribbean winter program – by restarting our operations in Cozumel.”

Anthony’s Take: There have been lots of announcements lately for flights from Canada to warm weather destinations this coming winter. Air Transat offering Lima is a nice addition and added options to Mexico are always welcome.
