Marriott International has officially brought its City Express by Marriott brand to Canada with the opening of City Express by Marriott Port Hope. This marks another milestone in the company’s rapid expansion into the affordable midscale hotel segment across North America.

City Express Canada

Located in Port Hope, Ontario, just off Highway 401, the 91-room hotel offers convenient access to major destinations including Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Prince Edward County, the Kawarthas, and the Niagara Region. The property is also close to Port Hope’s historic downtown, Lake Ontario waterfront, the Capitol Theatre, and nearby attractions such as Cobourg Beach.

Guests can expect many of the brand’s signature amenities, including complimentary breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, a 24-hour self-service coffee station, and The Market Place, which offers snacks, beverages, and travel essentials.

The opening represents the first City Express by Marriott property in Canada since Marriott acquired the City Express hotel portfolio in 2023. Originally founded in Mexico, the brand includes five concepts: City Express, City Express Plus, City Express Suites, City Express Junior, and City Centro (with more than 150 hotels across Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Costa Rica).

Marriott announced plans in late 2024 to introduce the brand to both the United States and Canada as it entered the midscale transient lodging segment. The expansion has accelerated quickly. In December 2025, Marriott revealed it had surpassed 100 signed agreements for City Express by Marriott hotels across the United States and Canada.

There are now six City Express by Marriott hotels open across the region with four additional properties expected to open before the end of the year. This reflects growing demand from both travelers seeking affordable accommodations and hotel owners looking to enter the fast-growing midscale market.

Anthony’s Take: The debut of City Express by Marriott in Canada further expands Marriott’s presence across every major lodging segment while giving travelers another value-focused option within the Marriott Bonvoy® portfolio.
