Delta Air Lines has partnered with Starbucks in a promo where members of both loyalty programs could earn stars with Starbucks and SkyMiles with Delta for every purchase made at the coffee chain since October 2022. This is changing on June 12th as daily purchases will no longer earn SkyMiles.
Currently, the Starbucks and Delta partnership works as it is outlined above. I go to Starbucks at least once daily and have earned many miles from this promotion. Not enough for a free flight, but maybe a few cocktails in the Sky Club®.
As of June 12th, daily purchases will not earn SkyMiles. These will only be earned for reloading your Starbucks gift card within the app. As you can see, it makes sense to load $100 at a time for maximum earning potential. This will actually award more miles than making daily purchases on non-travel days. I generally load up several hundred dollars on the 1st of every month so that I may earn 6x Bilt Reward points. Stars will also still be earned as they have been based on the Starbucks Rewards earning structure.
The good news is that you can still earn 2x stars with Starbucks on days when you’re flying Delta and grabbing some coffee. I’m happy that this was kept in place as it’s a small, but nice gesture.
Anthony’s Take: Reload your Starbucks cards in $100 increments for maximum yield here. While I will miss seeing the daily postings, this is a great way to earn more SkyMiles in one shot.
