Back in November, I wrote about JetBlue’s plans to launch flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) this month. Its first-ever nonstop service between the airports departed at 8:04 PM last night and touched down in Spain at 9:45 AM local time, today.

This isn’t just another seasonal Europe flight, it’s JetBlue stepping deeper into competition with legacy carriers on a major transatlantic corridor. For travelers across the Northeast, especially those flying out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), the new route introduces a compelling alternative to airlines like Delta, Iberia, and LEVEL (who all fly the exact route). JetBlue is entering the market with aggressive pricing that will hopefully keep fares low.

Introductory pricing start at just $349 one-way in Economy, while its premium Mint® (Business Class) cabin begins at $1,799 one-way. JetBlue will operate the route 1x daily on a seasonal basis through October 25th. Flights are operated using the airline’s Airbus A321 aircraft. These offer 16 Mint® and 143 Economy Class seats.

JetBlue Tail

The Barcelona launch is just one piece of JetBlue’s broader European strategy, particularly out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). The airline has been steadily expanding its footprint across the Atlantic, targeting high-demand leisure and business routes with a mix of competitive fares and upgraded service.

By combining lower fares with a strong onboard product, JetBlue is putting pressure on competitors to match both price and experience. For travelers, that likely means better deals and improved service across the board.

Marty St. George, President of JetBlue, said:

The launch of service between Boston and Barcelona marks another exciting step in JetBlue’s transatlantic service. We’re excited to introduce our first service to Spain’s Catalonia region, connecting two dynamic global hubs and expanding our international reach. This route builds on our existing transatlantic presence from Boston and gives customers more choice and value when traveling between the U.S. and Europe.”

Anthony’s Take: JetBlue is continuing to add to its European offerings. While recent news has put the company’s future in question, it’s good to see that planned routes like this one and upcoming flights to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) are moving forward.
