Hyatt is expanding the Thompson Hotels brand in Europe with the Thompson Rome, which is expected to open in mid-2024. The Thompson Rome will be the second Thompson property in Europe with the Thompson Madrid having opened last year (the Thompson Vienna has also been announced and will open in 2025).

Thompson Rome will feature 70 rooms. The brand is known for channelling a destination’s local flair and incorporating creative design and culinary experiences into its properties. The cultural areas of music, art, fashion, design, and culinary lead the Thompson Hotels brand experience in its boutique hotels.

This hotel will be in a unique space: the former headquarters of the Italian Communist Party. The elegant Palazzo was built in the 1930s and is located near the Capitoline Hill, Fori Imperiali, and the Jewish Quarter. The historical elements of the building that remain will represent the brand’s commitment to authentic cultural curation. It will include an entrance hall, designed by sculptor Giò Pomodoro, with a five-pointed gold star set into the floor, as well as a marble bust of the party’s founding member, Antonio Gramsci.

Nuno Galvao Pinto, Regional Vice President of Real Estate and Development at Hyatt, said:

We know that there is a growing appetite amongst today’s travelers and developers for hotels that cater to culturally savvy guests and bring a modern approach to conventional hospitality. We are excited to meet this demand with one of the most exciting new hotels in Rome as we continue to scale our luxury, lifestyle and leisure brands across the region. We are honored to continue to work with AG Group s.r.l. to welcome the Thompson Hotels brand to one of the world’s most coveted leisure destinations.”

Thompson Rome will have four restaurants, including a rooftop cocktail bar with panoramic views of the city. The property will also have two dedicated meeting rooms and a fitness center.
