American Airlines is betting that travelers will want to head for the sun this winter with its largest-ever schedule of flights to the Caribbean and Latin America. The carrier will introduce two new routes and expand the frequencies on 21 others.
American’s two new routes have the carrier flying between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Nashville International Airport (BNA) to/from Cancun International Airport (CUN) on December 9th. The airline serves Cancun on 35 peak-day flights from both hubs and other cities including Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh, and St. Louis.

This coming winter we’re looking forward to adding more service to the destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean that our customers want to visit, including popular spots like Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana, as well as our newest destination, Tortola. We are proud to strengthen our lead as the largest U.S. airline in the region, with more flights and seats to more destinations than any other single carrier or partnership.”
Winter 2023 will see American operating more than 2,250 weekly flights to 90 destinations in the region. This is a 10% increase in seat capacity compared to winter 2022. These include flights to Anguilla, Antigua, Argentina, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, Brazil, The Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, St. Croix, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, Tortola, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks & Caicos.

Anthony’s Take: American Airlines has exerted dominance in the Caribbean and Latin America. While the airline has retreated in Europe and Asia, it’s clear that it has a huge presence in this region. I’m a bit jealous of all of the destinations that American hits here and wish Delta would pick a few of these up.
