A recent work dinner had me in San Jose overnight and the closest hotel to the restaurant was not a Hyatt or Marriott, but a Hilton property. Hilton launched Signia by Hilton in 2019. The brand is focused on business travelers and more specifically, meetings and events. The San Jose location is a reflagged Fairmont San Jose. The property was fine for my short stay, but it definitely has some areas that need some TLC.

Anthony’s Take: The Signia by Hilton San Jose worked well for me while needing to be in town. While it is a business-focused property, it does have an outdoor pool and could also be a good pick for leisure travelers in San Jose. Service was fine when I needed something, but I did not have many interactions with the staff.

I booked a 1 King Bed Guestroom on an “Honors Discount Semi-Flex” rate. The nightly cash rate was $273 including taxes and fees. Hilton offers award redemptions starting at 62,000 points for a standard room.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) to the hotel. It cost $47 and the 4.7-mile ride took around 18 minutes. The next morning, I took an Uber Comfort to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This ride took over an hour and cost $89.

Location

The Signia by Hilton San Jose is across the street from Plaza de César Chávez Park and not far from the San Jose Convention Center as well as plenty of shopping and restaurants.

Check-in

I arrived at the hotel around 3:00 PM and was promptly checked in. The check-in desks are through the lobby and fills an entire wall.

The agent gave me a small box of candy for holding Hilton Gold status and printed my keys. I was not asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not).

Hilton Signia Upgrade

A few days before my stay, I received an email telling me that I had been upgraded to a 1 King Bed City/Mountain View Room. Within two minutes, I was off to the elevators.

The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good shape.

1 King Bed City/Mountain View Room (1818)

There are 805 rooms (including 75 suites) at the Signia by Hilton San Jose.

Hilton Signia San Jose 14

The room opened with a small foyer.

Hilton Signia San Jose 16

The bathroom area was to the side and it was makeup table and mirror outside of it.

Hilton Signia San Jose 17

A closet was next to this table. It offered an iron and ironing board as well as a safe.

Hilton Signia San Jose 18

The bathroom itself was to the left. It held a vanity with a single sink, a glassed-in shower, and a toilet.

Hilton Signia San Jose 19

The vanity offered a good amount of counter space.

Hilton Signia San Jose 20

Large bottles of LAFCO New York toiletries were on the counter. I found it tacky that these were not full. No bar soap was provided.

Hilton Signia San Jose 21

The shower was positioned close to the vanity. It was a standard size with decent water pressure and temperature control.

Hilton Signia San Jose 22

More LAFCO New York toiletries were mounted to the wall and these were also not full.

Hilton Signia San Jose 23

The bathroom was on the smaller side, but I liked that the toilet had its own alcove.

Hilton Signia San Jose 24

The bedroom was around the corner. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a desk and chair, a cabinet that housed a refrigerator, a TV, and much to my surprise, a Peloton Bike.

Hilton Signia San Jose 25

The desk and chair were near the window.

Hilton Signia San Jose 26

The TV was standing on this cabinet across from the bed.

Hilton Signia San Jose 27

Inside, there was a refrigerator with two complimentary bottles of water.

Hilton Signia San Jose 28

A coffeemaker, coffee, condiments, cups, tea, and more bottled water was also found here.

Hilton Signia San Jose 29

Another shelf held an ice bucket and glasses.

The Peloton Bike was near the bed.

The room did have a nice view.

A steam room (out of order) and sauna were also found here.

The microwave is a nice addition for guests ordering delivered food. It was found in the lobby.

There is lots of meeting space at this hotel.

Overall Impression:

The Signia by Hilton San Jose served my needs. It offers a good range of amenities and the room was comfortable. I’d return if I needed to be in downtown San Jose.
