In July, I wrote about Spirit Airlines introducing bundled fares, priority-check-in, a new boarding process, and more. These new fare bundles went live and travelers can now book them. Go Big began on August 27th and the bundle includes Spirit’s BIG FRONT SEATS® along with complimentary Wi-Fi, snacks, and drinks. I tested out this new service today. Here are my thoughts.

We had our boarding passes, so we did not use it but Spirit has introduced priority check-in for Go Big passengers, Free Spirit Gold members, and Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders. These include:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Cancún International Airport (CUN)
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR)
  • Nashville International Airport (BNA)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
  • New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA)

Spirit Go Big 4

Boarding happened on schedule and the gate agent called for Gold Members and those seated in the BIG FRONT SEATS® after those with disabilities and active military were boarded.

Spirit Go Big 1

I have long purchased Spirit’s BIG FRONT SEATS®. These are essentially domestic First Class seats (without the recline or outlets). Nothing changed with the Go Big bundle as I got the same seats that I would normally choose and purchase a la carte.

Spirit Go Big 2

The snack and drink service on this flight was different and akin to what you would receive on a shorter flight if flying American, Delta, or United. Choices include Pop Chips, Kind bars, Blue Diamond Almonds, kettle corn, and brownies. The flight attendant brought around a snack basket and allowed guests in rows one and two to choose what they would like. Beverages (including alcohol) were also proactively offered.

I’m hoping that Spirit comes up with another benefit for its top-tier, Gold members as the free snack and drink benefit no longer matters when sitting up front and purchasing a Go Big bundle.

Spirit Go Big 3

We chose a ginger ale and a Long Island Iced Tea.

Wi-Fi was also complimentary when booked in advance. I purchased our tickets before the changes were made to Spirit’s bundles and cabins. At the time, I bought myself Wi-Fi access but did not for my husband as he usually sleeps and does not want it. It’s now free for passengers who book the Go Big bundle in advance (and not for those that pay to upgrade at the gate).

Anthony’s Take: There was not too much different about today’s flight versus others I have taken recently on Spirit. The snack basket was a nice addition and my husband liked that drinks and snacks were now included for him (since he does not have status with Spirit).
