Alaska Airlines is adding a trio of new routes in Southern California. Flights will connect Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Diego International Airport (SAN) with three new destinations (including Alaska’s 39th destination from San Diego).

SAN LAX Route Map

All three new routes begin on October 1st. With these launches, Alaska will offer the most daily flights to any West Coast destination out of LAX. New routes include:

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Pasco’s Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) (1x daily)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO0 (2x daily)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (4x daily)

Neil Thwaites, Regional Vice President of California at Alaska Airlines, said:

As the only airline based on the West Coast, we’re committed to growth in Southern California, and I’m excited that we will offer our largest schedule out of the region in recent years; with our new services from Los Angeles to both Reno and Pasco as well as increased options to the destinations our guests visit most frequently. This new schedule also solidifies our title as the airline serving the most nonstop destinations from San Diego with our new service to Las Vegas.”

In addition to these new routes, Alaska is increasing capacity out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) by more than 25% (also starting on October 1st). This includes these routes:

  • Boise Airport (BOI) (3x daily)
  • Eugene Airport (EUG) (2x daily)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (6x daily)
  • Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR) (2x daily)
  • Portland International Airport (PDX) (8x daily)
  • San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) (5x daily)
  • Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) (3x daily)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) (13x daily)
  • Spokane International Airport (GEG) (2x daily)

Alaska Airlines serves more than 120 destinations across the United States, the BahamasBelizeCanadaCosta RicaGuatemala, and Mexico. It’s continued focus on the West Coast has let it carve out a strong niche (which will only be strengthened and expanded when its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines is finalized).

Anthony’s Take: I don’t fly Alaska Airlines often, but West Coast flyers should be excited with all of these new and expanded options.
