I had never spent any time in Louisville, but a client dinner last month had me in the city overnight. I found the adorable boutique hotel called the Hotel Genevieve – JDV by Hyatt in the New Louisville or NuLu District (it’s also known as the East Market District). The area has galleries, shops, restaurants, and distilleries. I wish I had more time to check out more of the area and all it had to offer, but I was quite impressed with what I saw in my overnight stay.
Anthony’s Take: The staff could not have been friendlier and I loved the quirky suite that I was upgraded to during my stay. It had the feel of a Brooklyn apartment and was more than enough space for me to relax and get some work done. It’s great to have something different than the cookie cutter suites that make up most accommodations. I will definitely return to this hotel the next time I need to be in Louisville.
Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed room on a “Members Save More” rate directly with Hyatt. It cost $150 per night plus taxes. There is no Destination Fee here. If you’re redeeming World of Hyatt® points, expect to spend between 12,000 and 18,000 points per night for a standard room at this Category 4 property.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I flew in and out of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). The hotel is located around 6.9 miles from the airport. I took an Uber Comfort from the airport. It took around 12 minutes and cost $48. Going back to the airport the time and cost was around the same.
Location
As noted above, the neighborhood is fun and funky with some great spots to eat, shop, drink, and hang out. It’s close to the airport as well.
Check-in
I arrived at the hotel around 1:00 PM. The agent was friendly and told me that I had been upgraded to a Suite Genevieve (which is the largest and only type of suite at the hotel). She explained that breakfast was served in the lobby and gave me a voucher. She asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not) and printed my keys. I was on my way to the suite a moment later.
The lobby is designed to feel cozy and a bit groovy. I liked the decor and the plants throughout.
It was decorated for Christmas during my stay.
Elevators were around the corner from reception.
The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair.
Suite Genevieve (328)
There are 122 rooms at suites at the hotel.
The suite opened with a hallway that held two closets.
The closets held a robe, luggage rack, and safe.
The safe was on one of the shelves near the floor.
Across from the closets was a wet bar.
It offered a sink as well as a kettle, ice bucket, tea, cups, and condiments.
An empty refrigerator was below for guest use.
The living room area was straight ahead. It held a couch, tables, a chair, and a TV.
The TV was on top of a cabinet across from the couch.
The bedroom was off of the living room. It offered a king-sized bed, nightstands, a dresser, and a TV.
A welcome amenity that consisted of some snacks and water was given to me at check-in.
The view overlooked the street, an AC Hotel, and a Cuban restaurant.
The massive bathroom was through the bedroom.
There were two more robes here. These were much more fun than the plain white one in the closet.
The vanity had a ton of counter space and a single sink.
A bar of Le Labo SANTAL 33 soap was next to the sink.
A tray with other amenities was also on the counter.
The toilet had its own room.
The shower was also large.
More Le Labo toiletries were mounted to the wall.
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel does not have much in the way of amenities. A grab-and-go market (pictured above) is in the lobby along with a restaurant and a speakeasy. There is also a rooftop bar. There is no fitness center here.
I took out lunch from Mini Marché (in the lobby) and grabbed a turkey sandwich, cookie, and two ginger ales.
I did not get to have breakfast, but this card was given to me at check-in.

Jimmy Can’t Dance is the speakeasy with live Jazz on some nights.
Overall Impression:
This was a fun hotel and one that I hope to come back to in the future. The service and accommodations along with Globalist treatment were great.
