Southwest Airlines is marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States with the launch of a new patriotic livery and a national partnership aimed at celebrating the country’s history and community spirit.

The airline has introduced Independence One, a specially painted aircraft featuring a bold red, white, and blue design. The livery includes “1776” in quill-style script, references to the Declaration of Independence with the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Additional design elements include a circle of stars on the engine cowlings inspired by the Betsy Ross flag, a commemorative “1776” tail number, and America250 branding on the nose and winglets.

Independence One joins Southwest’s existing patriotic fleet (including Freedom One and the newly introduced Liberty One) to create a trio of aircraft dedicated to celebrating American heritage. The aircraft will officially enter service on April 29th and operate its first flight from Dallas Love Field (DAL) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The route symbolically links the airline’s hometown with the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence. Alongside the aircraft unveiling, Southwest has announced a partnership with America250 to become the official airline of the America Gives initiative. The program aims to make 2026 the largest year of volunteerism in US history.
As part of the effort, Southwest will invest up to $250,000 to support nonprofit organizations connected to employee volunteer work. The initiative builds on more than 180,000 hours of volunteer service contributed by Southwest employees in 2025.

Bob Jordan, President and Chief Executive Officer at Southwest Airlines, said:
With our new Independence One and Liberty One aircraft, we honor this important milestone in our nation’s history, and the generations of Customers that Southwest has carried. They join our Freedom One aircraft in uniting families, bringing service members home, flying entrepreneurs chasing an opportunity, and helping communities stay connected. Southwest is proud to be a part of the 250th national celebration and to honor the same spirit of innovation, resilience, and optimism that has shaped our country and our Company.”
Anthony’s Take: The launch of this livery reflects Southwest’s broader identity as a carrier focused on accessibility and domestic connectivity while celebrating 55 years of operations and its role in connecting communities across the United States.
