Air Transat is strengthening its presence in Spain with a new interline partnership with Iberia. It will give travelers access to more than 20 additional destinations across the country through seamless connections at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD).

The agreement comes as Air Transat continues to build on its position in the Spanish market and offers customers greater flexibility and connectivity beyond its existing nonstop routes. Under the new partnership, passengers flying with Air Transat to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) will be able to connect onward with Iberia to a wide range of destinations, including Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), Ibiza Airport (IBZ), Tenerife North Airport (TFN), Tenerife South Airport (TFS), and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC), and others.

The collaboration significantly expands Air Transat’s reach across Spain without requiring the airline to operate additional routes directly. Spain has become an increasingly important market for the Montreal-based carrier. Air Transat currently serves five destinations in the country, including four year-round routes to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) – Barcelona, Spain, Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), and Valencia Airport (VLC). The recent addition of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) to the airline’s winter schedule further strengthens its presence in the popular leisure destination.

By combining Air Transat’s transatlantic network with Iberia’s extensive domestic operation, travelers will benefit from a more streamlined travel experience. Customers booking under the interline agreement will receive a single itinerary, baggage checked through to their final destination, and protection in the event of schedule disruptions.

The partnership also supports growing demand for travel to Spain’s island destinations, particularly the Balearic and Canary Islands, which remain popular year-round with Canadian travelers seeking both cultural experiences and warmer weather. Air Transat’s announcement follows its recent recognition as the World’s Best Leisure Airline at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards, reinforcing the carrier’s focus on expanding its international network while enhancing the customer experience.

Anthony’s Take: With the new Iberia partnership now in place, Canadian travelers will have easier access to some of Spain’s most sought-after destinations, further cementing Air Transat’s role as a key player in the Canada-Spain travel market.
