I had stayed at the Hyatt Regency Columbus a few weeks ago (review here) and had to return on business again last week. The hotel worked well for what I needed on this trip as well. It was a short ride to my event and there were plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. I focused on a lot of the amenities in my last review and this one will focus solely on the suite upgrade I received.
Anthony’s Take: The Hyatt Regency Columbus is a functional and convenient business hotel in Columbus’ Arena District. I was proactively upgraded to a suite (like last time but bigger on this visit) and found the staff as friendly as last time. The hotel does not have a Club Lounge, but breakfast as well as vouchers for appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages are provided (I again did not have time for breakfast or apps during my short stay).
Booking
I once again booked 1 King Bed room on a Standard Rate of $197 plus taxes and fees. The hotel is a Category 2 property and room redemptions range from 6,500 to 9,500 per night when redeeming World of Hyatt points for a standard room.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). The approximately 7.1-mile ride took 12 minutes and cost $31. I returned to the airport the next evening in the same way and at a similar cost.
Location
The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Nationwide Arena and the Arena District. There are also lots of stores and restaurants nearby.
Check-in
I arrived at the hotel around 3:00 PM and my suite was ready. The lobby was nicely decorated for the holidays. Reception lines one wall of the lobby. The agent checking me in informed me that I was upgraded to a VIP Suite. I did not need late checkout, but was not asked. The hotel does not have a Club Lounge and I was given a voucher for an appetizer and non-alcoholic beverage. Breakfast would also be provided on the second floor. I had my key a few moments later and was on the way to my suite.
I loved the decorations in the lobby.
As mentioned, I was upgraded to a lovely VIP Suite.
As mentioned above, I was provided a voucher for an appetizer and non-alcoholic beverage.
The elevator lobby and hallways were both clean and felt like they were recently refreshed.
VIP Suite (2025)
There are 631 rooms and 16 suites at the hotel.
The suite opened with a console table and some art near the door.
A half bath was located nearby.
It held a vanity with a single sink and lots of light.
A bar of Pharmacopia brand soap and lotion were on the counter.
The toilet was spaced well within the room.
The huge living room was past the half bath.
It offered tons of seating and a TV.
Even though they’re fake, it’s nice to see flowers in the room.
The other side of the room offered a dining area and kitchen. The table sat six.
A nearby buffet held the safe.
The kitchen offered more seating.
It held a refrigerator and microwave.
A sink was also found here.
The hotel also graciously welcomed me with a bottle of champagne.
A Keurig coffeemaker, coffee pods, condiments, and bottled water were found near the living room.
The bedroom was off of the living room. It held a king-sized bed, table and chair, and nightstands.
A TV was mounted across from the bed.
The closet held an iron and ironing board, luggage rack, and some shelves.
The full bath was on the left side. It had a large vanity, but surprisingly only one sink.
Another bar of Pharmacopia brand soap was on the counter.
A bottle of lotion was mounted to the wall.
The bathroom had quite a bit of space.
The glassed-in shower was clean and worked well.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the shower wall.
Overall Impression:
The Hyatt Regency Columbus gets the job done if you’re staying there for a conference or nearby meetings downtown. Elite benefits are great at this hotel and I was proactively given an upgrade to a huge suite. The hotel makes up for not having a Club Lounge for what it gives in vouchers. I’ll definitely be back.
