TAP Portugal announced today that it is adding three seasonal routes from Portugal to the United States next summer. These include new flights to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Los Angeles is an entirely new city for TAP and its eighth US destination.
TAP is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025. Its first flights to the United States date back to 1969. Currently, TAP serves the following US cities:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
- New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
New routes will launch in May and June. These include:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) (4x weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays; runs from May 14th through October 25th)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) (3x weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays; starts on May 16th and runs through October 25th)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Lajes Airport (TER) in the Azores (1x weekly on Tuesdays; runs from June 3rd through August 26th)
The Boston service will be flown with Airbus A321-LR aircraft with 16 Business Class, 42 Economy Xtra, and 113 Economy Class seats. Both the Los Angeles and San Francisco routes use Airbus A330-900 neo aircraft with 34 Business Class, 96 Economy Xtra, and 168 Economy Class seats.
Carlos Antunes, TAP’s Director for the Americas, said:
We’re tremendously excited to announce new service from Logan to Porto, LAX to Lisbon and SFO to the Azores. Los Angeles will become TAP’s eighth US gateway. And, of course, all three new routes include our popular Portugal Stopover program where you can enjoy up to 10 days in Portugal enroute to any of our destinations in Europe, or on the way home, for no additional airfare.”
TAP will offer more than 100 weekly flights from 11 North American gateways to Portugal this summer when these routes launch. The Star Alliance carrier continues to grow and often offers excellent fares to get across the pond.
Anthony’s Take: I’ve flown TAP Portugal many times and find the experience pleasant, overall. TAP is flying some newer aircraft and that makes the Business Class experience more comfortable for these longer flights.
