Back in May, I wrote that it looked like the St. Regis Longboat Key was going to open last month. That slipped a bit, but the hotel is officially open as of today.

St. Regis has long been one of my favorite brands in Marriott’s hotel portfolio. To date, there is only one location in Florida. The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort is one of the best resort properties in the United States and I have stayed there many times through the years. Florida will soon have the new St. Regis Longboat Key (which is near Sarasota). Earlier this year, we stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota (full review here) and had a good staycation. With the coming opening of this property, I see another for us in the fall.

The resort has 168 guest rooms including 26 suites and 69 private residences. High-end finishes are to be expected at a St. Regis property and this one will have wood plank flooring, rainfall showers, freestanding bathtubs, and walk-in closets. It also touts the St. Regis signature butler service, which I completely avoid. I tell the hotel at check-in that I don’t want to meet the butler or have them come near the room. I find it more annoying than useful as I don’t need help packing or unpacking, go to Starbucks, and don’t generally want people in my room.

The 18-acre resort is located on Longboat Key, which is a barrier island outside of Sarasota on the Gulf of Mexico. The property has some exciting features for relaxing including an 800-foot private, white-sand beach, a 20,000-square-foot oceanfront spa, a fitness center, and a 475-foot-long winding river. I love that this property has a lazy river and can’t wait to check it out. Dining options include a steakhouse, as well as Italian, Latin American, and Asian-Fusion restaurants. Like every St. Regis, the St. Regis Bar also exists here.

Anthony’s Take: I cannot wait to check this property out next winter. It looks gorgeous and will make the perfect weekend getaway while we’re in Tampa.
