Spirit Airlines might be deferring delivery of some new aircraft and looking to furlough 260 pilots (more here), but it’s continuing to tweak the route network. Last week, I wrote about the low-cost carrier adding seven new routes. Now, it’s back with three more flights added and two getting the chop.

Spirit will add three new routes, including:

  • Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to/from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) (daily; starts on June 5th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Portland International Airport (PDX) (daily; starts on July 10th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) (daily; starts on July 10th)

Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) will be losing two routes in this latest update, including:

  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) (the schedule is erratic week to week and service ends on November 4th)
  • Indianapolis International Airport (IND) (the schedule is erratic week to week and service ends on October 24th)

John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning, said:

Spirit is always looking for opportunities to introduce low fares and new routes that provide our Guests with high-value options to great destinations. We’re looking forward to the start of our new daily, nonstop service between Houston (IAH) and Pittsburgh (PIT) and connecting Los Angeles (LAX) with Portland (PDX) and Seattle (SEA) this summer.”

Anthony’s Take: I like that Spirit has been focusing on adding more flights between major cities and taking on routes served by the legacy carriers. I continue to fly Spirit frequently and appreciate the choices.
