Southwest Airlines Expands in Las Vegas and Orlando With Lots of New Routes

Southwest Airlines is doubling down on two of its largest markets and announced a major expansion at Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). The growth includes lots of new routes and frequency increases rolling out between spring 2026 and spring 2027.

Southwest is adding or expanding service on 26 routes to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) including several new nonstop destinations already launching or scheduled soon:

  • Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) (starts on May 14th)
  • Cancún International Airport (CUN) (starts on June 6th)
  • Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) (starts on April 14th)
  • Hilo International Airport (ITO) (starts on August 4th)
  • Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) (starts on October 4th)
  • Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) (starts on June 6th)
  • San Jose’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) (starts on October 4th)

Looking ahead to 2027, additional routes to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) include:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) (starts on March 11th)
  • Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) (starts on March 11th)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) (starts on March 11th)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) (starts on March 11th)

Southwest is also boosting frequencies on existing routes such as Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Nashville International Airport (BNA), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA). The expansion is expected to push Las Vegas to a record number of daily Southwest departures by 2027.

At Orlando International Airport (MCO), Southwest is adding or expanding service on 23 routes with several new destinations already launched or planned:

  • Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) (started March 5th)
  • Little Rock’s Clinton National Airport (LIT) (starts June 4th)
  • Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) (starts November 5th)
  • St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) (started April 9th)
  • St. Thomas’ Cyril E. King Airport (STT) (started February 5th)
  • Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) (starts June 4th)

The airline is also increasing service on key existing routes, including Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Nashville International Airport (BNA), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), and San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU).

By 2027, Southwest expects to operate more than 200 daily departures from Orlando International Airport (MCO), cementing it as one of the airline’s largest hubs. Both Las Vegas and Orlando are major leisure destinations and Southwest’s expansion reflects continued strong demand for domestic and vacation travel.
