Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled the first of three special aircraft liveries celebrating Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Moana (set to debut in theaters on July 10th).
The first design has been applied to an Airbus A321neo, which operates flights between Hawaii, the US West Coast, and the Cook Islands. Two additional Moana-themed aircraft will be revealed in July (including an Airbus A330 and a Boeing 717 that serves inter-island routes throughout Hawaii).

The commemorative liveries are designed to capture the adventurous spirit of Disney’s beloved heroine and promote the film’s message to “Voyage beyond the reef.” The artwork features several familiar characters from the upcoming live-action movie, including the shape-shifting demigod Maui depicted as a powerful hawk carrying his iconic fishhook and the mischievous Kakamora riding ocean breezes across the aircraft’s fuselage.

Passengers will also spot Moana’s loyal animal companions, Heihei the chicken and Pua the pot-bellied pig, positioned near the aircraft wingtips as if guiding the journey. Inside the cabin, additional character artwork will appear in overhead luggage bins, extending the theme throughout the passenger experience.

The new liveries continue a long-running partnership between Hawaiian Airlines and Disney. The airline previously introduced aircraft celebrating the animated films Moana and Moana 2 to bring the franchise’s themes of exploration and Polynesian heritage to travelers around the world. The collaboration is a natural fit for Hawaiian Airlines, which has spent more than 96 years connecting the Hawaiian Islands while honoring the traditions of early Polynesian voyagers and celestial navigation. Across its fleet, the airline pays tribute to Hawaii’s culture and natural environment by naming aircraft after native birds, stars, plants, and forests.
Anthony’s Take: With three specially themed aircraft set to take to the skies ahead of the film’s release, Hawaiian Airlines is helping bring the spirit of Moana to travelers worldwide while celebrating the rich heritage of wayfinding and exploration that inspired the story.
