Detroit is a city steeped in history and culture. It offers a wide range of activities and attractions for visitors of all ages. From exploring the city’s rich automotive heritage to enjoying its vibrant arts scene, there’s no shortage of things to see and do here.

Here are five things you can’t miss on your visit.

Motown Museum

5. Take a Tour of the Motown Museum

The iconic Motown Museum offers visitors a chance to explore the birthplace of Motown music, including a tour of the legendary Studio A, where artists like The Temptations and Stevie Wonder recorded some of their greatest hits.

Can’t Miss: Look for Michael Jackson’s black fedora and studded white right-hand glove. He donated these in 1988 along with $125,000, which equaled the net proceeds of the first show of his Bad World Tour.

Henry Ford Museum

3. Explore the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation

Located just outside of Detroit in Dearborn, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation features exhibits on American history and innovation, including the bus that Rosa Parks rode, JFK’s presidential limousine, and the Wright Brothers’ bicycle shop.

Detroit Street Art

2. Check Out the Street Art in the City

Detroit is known for its vibrant street art scene. Murals and graffiti adorn buildings throughout the city. Take a walking tour or explore on your own to discover some of the best works.

Can’t Miss: Check out The Heidelberg Project. This is artist Tyree Guyton’s ode to diversity, discussion, and taking action. It spans two city blocks on the lower east side and was recently named the number four spot in the USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice survey for Best Art District.

Eastern Market

1. Shop and Dine in Eastern Market

I’m always a sucker for a good market. I love tasting local foods and seeing what local purveyors are offering. Eastern Market features over 150 vendors selling everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts. It’s the largest historic market in the United States. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes in the area to grab a bite to eat.

Can’t Miss: Chow down on a triple-decker corned beef sandwich from Frank’s Deli & Grill. If you want something a tad lighter, there are corned beef egg rolls.
