Watching the humongous swarm/flock of bats fly away from the Congress Street Bridge around sundown from the field in front of the Austin Statesman newspaper building is awesome and creates a lasting memory. The bats are seasonal, so make sure to visit when they are in Austin. Truly remarkable experience.
Also, consider easy hike up to summit of Mount Bonnell. Great views. Fun family experience.
