I’ve stayed at the former Westin Palace Madrid several times and always had great experiences. The staff are top notch, suites lovely (in a classically designed sense, i.e. they feel historic), and the location cannot be beat. The hotel just completed an extensive two-year renovation and has reopened as The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid. I’m happy to report that the property’s iconic stained glass dome remains intact and the refresh to the rest of the hotel looks great.
My review of the Westin Palace Madrid can be found here. The hotel is located opposite the Spanish Parliament and within easy walking distance of The Prado Museum (six-minute walk), Retiro Park (10-minute walk), and lots of other attractions, restaurants, and shopping.
The property is over 110 years old (having opened in 1912) and while lovely, needed some cosmetic touchups.
The room and suite renovations look great and added some modern finishes without completely ruining the classic aesthetic. The redesigned interiors at The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid were led by Lázaro Rosa-Violán studio. Glamour and sophistication were at the center of the design while historical figures who once stayed are honored. These include Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Mata Hari, and Ernest Hemingway.
Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader of The Luxury Collection, said:
The debut of The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, represents a significant addition to our global portfolio in one of Europe’s most culturally rich cities. Situated in the heart of Madrid, this hotel invites our global guests to fully immerse themselves in the city’s distinguished artistic heritage and vibrant spirit. With its thoughtful blend of historical allure and modern luxury, this hotel is poised to offer a one-of-a-kind gateway to explore the city’s most iconic cultural treasures and its lively, creative energy.”
Anthony’s Take: I have always loved this hotel and am happy to see it get some love. It never felt right as a Westin and is definitely a Luxury Collection property. I hope to return in the future.
