Two police officers were injured when a Segway spontaneously caught fire at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) yesterday afternoon. The departures level where the vehicle ignited was closed for around 90 minutes and passengers were made to wait outside while the fire department handled the fire.

The fire began around the EgyptAir ticket counters around 7:30 PM. It was contained by 9:00 PM and operations resumed for both passengers and airline personnel. Two police officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained. It’s crazy that a Segway can just burst into flames. Definitely not an everyday site at the airport.
